Chandler, AZ., - December 7, 2010 - Providing operating systems for long life to complement embedded solutions, NEX Computing Solutions announced its participation in the Microsoft Windows Embedded Partner Program.  This program allows NEX to provide operating systems well past end of life cycles for retail and system builder operating systems.  Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 3 has been discontinued from Microsoft in the retail channel, however Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 3 with Embedded restrictions, as installed by NEX, will be available until the end of 2017.  (This is not to be confused with Windows XP Embedded, which is the componentized version of XP.(Also available from NEX)

 

"This new partnership allows NEX to service its existing customers who do not wish to migrate Windows 7," said Bob Canning, Customer Solutions Engineer for NEX Computing Solutions.  "Also, with the use of Original Equipment Manufacture Pre-installation Kits (OPKs) we are able to provide recovery media to our customers.  If the customer experiences a corrupt operating system, they simply boot with the included recovery media to restore the unit to exact factory specifications".

 

Although many of NEX Computing Solutions customers will take advantage of the use of Windows XP Pro with Embedded restrictions, NEX also offers Windows 2003 Server Telco for some of its telephony customers.  "It is the same version as the original Windows 2003 Server, has the same binaries, and is able to receive all critical updates, but is licensed to customers with specific telecommunication applications such as call recorders, voice mail systems, and collaboration suites", Canning added.

 

Kent Lemmex, President of NEX Computing Solutions, stated that this new agreement would allow NEX to engage with new customers as well.  "By signing the partner embedded systems paperwork with Microsoft, we can support the under served market for software companies who are not ready for Windows 7.  This is even more true for companies that may be bundling a specific PCI card in their solutions where drivers may not exist for the latest operating systems."
